Hello,

we are the students of class 4 E , Liceo Scientifico “G. Marconi” ,  Carrara.

We have been in this Socrates project  for three years  and we have always enjoyed working at it and getting in touch with students from other European countries.

As you probably remember , in  school year 2005/2006 we presented a project about our coastline  and its history  , and about the role of the port in the development of our city . Last year we focused  on the problems coming  from a different management and distribution of water.

This year  the focus of our attention will be  the quarry-man, a figure  representing centuries of activity in the marble quarries . In our opinion  this  journey back in time is going to be exciting , both for  its historical and social  relevance  and for the contribution  that  a marble-related  culture  has given to our city and  its identity. It is our intention  to  examine  specific publications  and  above all  carry out some interviews in order to  outline  the anthropologic  features of the quarry-man . This way  we will try to understand how much  of his life, and how much of the life  of the women, children and whole families- who have made a living and still live thanks to marble- has been influenced by the close relationship with the mountains . On the other hand  the continuous change of the sky-line of  the Apuan Alps ( the marble mountains ) caused by  wild exploitation ,  gives  clear evidence of  how man’s activity  is affecting the environment

Well , that’s it for the time being !

Bye , bye ,

the 4 E students
