We are III A, a fantastic class of 24 people, 10 boys and 14 girls, who attend two different courses: the environmental one, which focuses on chemistry and biology, and the bilingual one which studies French together with English.
But in spite of different courses, we are a united, well matched and lively group, linked by a deep sense of friendship, and mutual respect... Well, a class worth to be known!!
The topic we chose this year for the Socrates-Comenius project is “The Apuane Alps: dividing mountains and linking roads”.
The Apuane Alps are the mountains which are behind our town, Carrara, and are famous all over the world for the marble quarries. They also separate the Northern coast of Tuscany from the two valleys Garfagnana and Lunigiana.
However in ancient times mule tracks and paths were marked out in order to link the two sides of the mountains and to enable the people to move from one side to the other.
We want to go through some of these routes and understand the various reasons that pushed people to move, examining the various evidences that can be found along the mountain roads and the different environments that they pass through.
